Issue #130: Primed for a nap
Good morning, shoppers!
You’ve gotta take the good stuff when it comes and run with it, and maybe even more good stuff will chase you, you know?
A girl on NJ Transit, who is a total stranger to me and whom I also absolutely did not pay to do this, just told me she “loves my aesthetic” as she walked past. I didn’t even know I had an aesthetic! It fully made my day if not, I don't know, my Q3.
I finally won a Broadway lottery too, and I’m on the train to see POTUS, which has amazing reviews. It’s sunny outside. I had my favorite cereal for lunch. It’s a pretty good day.
Here’s wishing the very same kind of good day for you.

Have you watched The Bear? Of course you have, everyone’s watched The Bear … or at least ogled this screenshot of Jeremy Allen White, looking resplendent in Chicago kitchen grime and general malaise. Every woman I know has something to say about White as Carmy Berzatto, a character who looks like he probably treats ghosting like an Olympic sport (an honorable mention to an anonymous friend for this one: “Why do I feel like I would have wasted years of my life with Carmy and enjoyed it?”) Another part of the show worth drooling over? All those Italian beef sandwiches. I somehow managed to get through the entire season before I dusted off my slow cooker and hightailed it to Whole Foods for a generous slab of chuck roast. Be warned, this super-easy recipe will have you saying “Yes, Chef” to yourself. —MC
I don’t know what happened to me, but I’m having a real moment with purple lately. Purple shoes, purple dresses, you name it, I would like it in purple, please. I’m just leaning into it, which is why these sunglasses, which somehow manage to have purple lenses without looking totally goofy — a feat — are really calling to me. Step aside, rose-tinted glasses, it’s a purple girl summer. —KW
As of right now, I am hardly existing, I am simply melting. I am averaging three showers a day, calling watermelon with Tajín “dinner” and canceling on activities I was previously excited about because it’s just…too…hot. If I could curl up inside an air conditioner, I would. I am so uncomfortable by these temperatures, I’ve been stalking this nugget ice maker, a gadget I would surely never pay for but like to daydream about owning. Iced tea? Got you. Need to fill that ice bucket? Just a minute, sweetheart. Adding pebble after pebble of ice to your evening bath? Say less. I could be bordering on heat stroke with this fantasy, but it seems cool. —MC
If there are two household items that seem to multiply to overabundance if you take your eyes off them for too long, it’s canvas tote bags and mugs. And yet, I find both of these categories absolutely irresistible. I can’t help it. Who doesn’t love a good tote? I finally have an excuse to look for mugs, since we recently added an espresso machine to our arsenal, but instead of the tiny mugs I’m meant to be browsing, I keep being drawn to absolutely enormous mugs like this cow print number. It does something to my insides when I look at it, something good. I don’t know if it’s the size or the print or both, but it moo-ves me. (Not sorry.) Maybe I could use it to hold the teeny tiny espresso cups that I haven’t fallen in love with yet? —KW
It’s not quite leather jacket season yet, but I’ve already got my eye on a new style for fall. This All Saints biker jacket is marked down two hundred dollars as part of Nordstrom’s Anniversary Sale. Now I know there’s a lot wrong in the world right now, but one thing you can count on is a good leather jacket will never go out of style. —MC
